Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist

KELSEY SHERMAN

Kelsey graduated PT school in 2011 and began working with humans in an outpatient setting while finding a passion in dog rescue. Her own dog, Sheriff, began limping in early 2013. She began seeking opinions of many doctors to figure out how to best help Sheriff. After some time, she determined Sheriff’s best chance at recovery was to undergo knee surgery.

After Sheriff’s surgery, Kelsey enrolled Sheriff in a rehabilitation program since she had firsthand experience at how drastically physical therapy helped her human patients. While going through the rehabilitation program with Sheriff, Kelsey made the decision to combine her two passions-dogs and physical therapy! She enrolled herself into courses at the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and in early 2015, became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist! She has been treating dogs with various mobility issues and diagnoses for the last 8 years. Her passion for K9 Rehabilitation is personal, knowing what it is like to have a hurt dog and not know how to help. Kelsey would love the opportunity to discuss ways to help your dog, just like she did with Sheriff!

SHERIFF'S STORY

Sheriff started limping on a back leg when he was just 2 years old. The limping would come and go but eventually became consistent and worsened. After many vet visits and opinions, Kelsey decided it was in Sheriff’s best interest to undergo surgery due to his torn cruciate ligament. Sheriff was enrolled in a rehabilitation program and began to get stronger and was able to take progressively longer walks. Kelsey worked with him at home on range of motion and exercises (though he was a little bit stubborn). Sheriff made slow but steady progress in rehabilitation and eventually got cleared by the surgeon to return to full activity! Unfortunately, shortly following his release to full activity, Sheriff tore his other cruciate ligament while getting up from laying down. He had his second surgery soon after, again followed by a long course of rehabilitation. He seemed to bounce back a little faster after the second surgery and soon enough was running at the dog park again! Sheriff is now 14 years old; he is slowing down in the last year but he maintained his strength and function throughout the years. Kelsey believes this is due to successful surgeries, rehabilitation after surgery and a long term home maintenance plan.

Sheriff is an example of consistent dedication that every dog owner can be a part of when the health of their pet is at risk. Partner with Kelsey today to begin your journey of rehabilitation success.

EVALUTION THROUGH THERAPY

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

We specialize in helping injured dogs regain an active lifestyle with their families through a customized rehabilitation plan. Here is how we can help you in 4 easy steps.

PHONE CONSULT

Let's start off with a phone call to discuss if your dog may benefit from K9 rehabilitation. Help us understand what your dog is experiencing.

EVALUATION

Schedule a hands-on evaluation of your pet's current needs and limitations to formulate a customized plan of therapy. Pet owners can immediately learn new techniques to implement at home to start helping recovery for your pup.

TREATMENTS

Let us tailor a therapy plan to get your dog's acute or chronic injury or disease recovery back on track. We handle simple to complex rehabilitation support in your home, where your dog is most comfortable, with tailored treatments.

WELLNESS

Your dog has recovered and might benefit from follow up treatments or recovery maintenance check-ins. Keep your dog's body strong where it once was weak by ensuring minimal decline in motion or mobility over time.

EVALUATION THROUGH THERAPY

We take your dog's rehabilitation from evaluation through therapy no matter the condition.

FROM EVALUATION THROUGH THERAPY & BEYOND

BACK PAIN/SPINE

There are many different reasons your dog can be experiencing back pain. All of them can cause your dog discomfort and make it challenging for them to participate in daily life activities.

ACUTE/CHRONIC INJURIES

Let us tailor a therapy plan to get your dog's acute or chronic injury or disease recovery back on track. We handle simple to complex rehabilitation support in your home.

ACL TEAR

Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) rupture is the tearing of an important ligament in the stifle joint (knee), resulting in partial or complete joint instability, pain, and lameness. Torn ligaments retract, do not heal, and cannot be repaired completely.

SENIOR SUPPORT

As dogs age, they need extra attention to maintain their strength, mobility and independence. There are techniques to utilize to help senior dogs feel comfortable and remain active and independent.

HIP DYSPLASIA

Hip dysplasia is a deformity of the hip joint that occurs during growth. This causes certain areas of muscle tightness around the hip joint and weakness in other areas. This leaves your dog feeling painful and impacts their activity level.

DEGENERATIVE MYELOPATHY

Degenerative myelopathy is a disease process that occurs in the spine and results in weakness/paralysis of the legs. Degenerative myelopathy is a progressive disease and can not be reversed, but rehab therapy has been shown to slow the progression of the disease, making sure your dog can be active for as long as possible.
